Oblica – The Queen of Croatian Olives
Origin: The Oblica olive, widely cultivated in Croatia, is considered the most planted olive variety in the country.
Agrobiological Characteristics: The medium-sized Oblica is characterized by a round canopy and straight, flexible branches. The large fruits, initially reddish, mature into darker shades. Its elliptical-lanceolate, dark green leaves make it resistant to drought, wind, and low temperatures. Oblica thrives on poor soil and yields regular, abundant harvests on humus-rich soil when well-pollinated.
Yield: Oblica produces irregular but good yields. The large fruits are particularly suitable for preserving.
Pollination: Partially self-pollinating, with many active male flowers. Cross-pollination occurs with varieties such as ‘Picholine,’ ‘Leccino,’ ‘Pendolino,’ ‘Ascolana,’ and ‘Tenera.’
Oil Quality: The olive oil obtained from Oblica is of good quality and versatile. With a smell and taste of ripe olives, it is mildly pungent and bitter, accompanied by a pronounced sweet aroma.
